All four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing are practised. | By the end of the year's course the students who attend regularly should be able to deal with basic everyday situations in the target language. |
| Beginners 2 These courses are aimed at those who have a basic knowledge of the language, have followed a course for a year or who have frequently visited the country. |
All four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing are practised. | By the end of the year's course the students who attend regularly should be able to converse simply and accurately in the target language. |
| Intermediate 1 These courses are aimed at those who have had two year's recent tuition in the target language or at those who wish to refresh their knowledge after a long gap. |
Basic skills are consolidated and extended, in particular speaking the target language. | By the end of the course students should have increased their knowledge of vocabulary and verb tenses to enable them to communicate on a wider range of topics. |
| Intermediate 2 These courses are designed for those who should by now have a good working knowledge of grammar of the target language. These courses would also normally suit post GCSE students. |
Students will continue to practise all skills using a greater variety of materials. | Students are expected to have a good grasp of grammar and its usage and therefore should be able to hold a conversation competently in many different situations. |
| Advanced 1 and 2 These courses are designed for students who speak the target language reasonably fluently and have a thorough knowledge of the grammar of the target language. |
Classes are conducted almost exclusively in the target language. | By the end of the year's course students should be able to speak and understand the language at a complex level. |
